A two bulb Program start or rapid start ballast requires both bulbs to complete the circuit, so no I haven't. I guess I could just try for the heck of it though.

I have no idea but I can't think why a Chinese TDS meter would be any different than any other TDS meter. There all made in China anyway..

I do not since use active substrates like aquasoil that contain plenty of nutrients for plants initially. Also the ammonia leach provides plenty of nitrogen for the DSM plants.

So I came up with this idea and have used it on two Dry Start Method (DSM) scapes thus far. I feel that it helped with my DSM scapes by keeping moisture in the substrate at an optimum level as well...
