I have it in multiple tanks. I trim all of it regularly. I agree with the "cut it at an angle" idea, though I don't always do that and I don't notice much, if any, difference.

I love trumpet snails too. I think my amano shrimp might eat them, though; I'm not sure. It might be that I've just seen them picking at empty shells. I never have as many as I want to.

Also, I think the "all the MTS" comment meant trumpet snails, not mineralized top soil. Way too many "MTS"s in this hobby. ;) Looking forward to following this...

I have thought about doing this too, I've got one tank in particular that I wish were de-rimmed. However, 10 gallon tanks are really pretty cheap. 10 bucks if you get them at the right time of year...
