I think I read that decreasing the inflow is more damaging to the pump than decreasing the outflow. I've never kept shrimp, but most people just use a sponge on the intake to protect the little ones...

Got a new plant package today. The plan is to overload the tank and see which plants love my water the most. I am hoping the extra plants help out in the algae battle too.
