This is bad information. CO2 will also kill everything if dosed wrong.

If budget allows, I'd reccomend a 60p or similar tank, low iron and minimal silicon is beautiful.

I'd run a water panel and likely do a large water change. Maybe add some feetilizers.

So I've been planning to build a pond since I got my condo two years ago. The catch? I'm on the second floor :).

If you want the best that is the simplest, go with ADA Aquasoil. It is on the pricier side but it is the best stuff in the hobby.
