You should be able to find wisteria or water sprite pretty easily and they are both confidence boosters for someone new to the hobby and might not have the best lighting.

Yeah their metabolism is slowed in colder water. I'm waiting for this summer to watch my population explode as then will be slowly going from about 72 degrees to 77.

Water movement is a good thing to help dispurse nutrients. Plants are ok without it, but if its so much that it disturbs your fish it is up to you.

I would imagine both Staurogyne Repens and dwarf Lobelia Cardinalis would not die off after the switch as I've never experienced this. Both of them would be fine in a tank on the lower medium side...
