Agree with the grinder post. Bench grinder and an adjustable wrench have gotten many an old fitting off for me. No marks on the regs from it either...though I can't say the same for the old fittings....

For me, the only thing that gives me any glass algae is a bit too much light or too little CO2. If you have a PAR meter, check the levels around the glass and tank in general. You may be surprised.
