Invest in a drop checker...bpm reading does not tell you how much CO2 is in the water. With CO2 and the Satellite Plus light you could start to deplete the nitrogen and potassium in about 2 weeks if...

Ditto on the urea. Its completely unneccessary IMHO. Other than that the chemicals you list are compatible with each other (yes, I am a chemist).

I currently use potassium carbonate as a K...

I prefer to test my water for Nitrates, phosphate, KH, GH and pH. I then modify the dosing schedule based on results. Anything else you are just shooting in the dark.

Varying bulbs alone is not the answer to fighting algae, you need to make sure there is sufficient CO2 + NPK dosing to provide enough growth and prevent algae. Having two out of three (ie CO2+light...

17 days in with strong light and some CO2....very likely you have a nutrient deficiency at this point. Grab a bottle on any balanced plant fertilizer from your LFS and add right away.

With low...

I would stick with 6500K for now, going to a more blue spectrum is not helpful (ie 10 or 12K). BTW you can buy 6500K 48" T5HO lights from hydroponic suppliers for about $10.

If you start with a 4X...

I was able to get potassium carbonate from a local clay-pottery arts studio, very cheap close to five lbs for $10. I use 10x more potassium (on a weight basis) in my tanks than nitrate, as it seems...

Most of the time you want a flow that is so slow that needle valves are useless. I have to crank mine almost closed and use a solenoid/timer to regulate CO2 levels.

Are you still adding acetate? A little bit periodically will provide the essential carbon the bacteria need to grow. If you get started with some stem plants they will suck up the nitrates easily...

So this obviously sounds like a planted tank..question you should be asking is why aren't your plants absorbing all that nitrate? I would wager your macros are deficient: check phosphate and dose if...

I would not do any water changes because you are depriving the bacteria of nitrogen nutrients. The goal is to add the other missing nutrients so the bacteria are fully satisfied.

Did some rough...

Need a source of carbon

Your test result still shows high ammonia levels-it should be down to zero (not detectable, yellow) level.

Denitrifying bacteria need a source of carbon to effectively metabolize nitrogen. The...
