Some species of leech are herbivorous if I remember right. But I'm pretty sure the ones with sucker mouths are predatory and will eat shrimp/snail/fish blood.

I used to grow it. It needs extremely high light. That is the main factor for success In my experience. Nutrients are important too, but unless you are at about 3-4 wpg of T5HO it's going to struggle
