Nitrates above 5PPm will cause red/pink plants to go green. Also they like a little higher amount of P04.
Photo period, and intensity also play a part in the color.

I thought I read the dosage for PO4 was 1/8th TSP, 3 times a week, as opposed to 1/4 tsp. I run my phosphate in the 2-3 PPM range with 3-4 WPG. Good growth, and minimal algae.
