If your substrate is pure sand, I agree with Cories... Any species really. Small fish may become lunch for your betta and the quick swimming white clouds will scare any micro fish into hiding.

These little fish often get mislabeled from the distributor/supplier. Same thing happened to me from a very reputable fish store, ended up with 3 different rasboras and none are chili for sure.

Your tank could use a trim and replant the tops, mainly the S. Repens and A. Reineckii. This would eventually add plant mass which you are lacking. I would also recommend slowly increasing your CO2...

I do the same, except change water every 3-4 days 2 fold. Empty old water as much as possible, rinse with previously dechlorinate water x2 then feed to my fish and back in the fridge.
