I'm using a dual T8 48" fixture on top of my 125....

I'm using a dual T8 48" fixture on top of my 125. Its providing plenty of light for the Java Fern and the Crypts that are directly underneath it.

You can tell the light tapers off at the ends...

Most rebuilders are getting a piece of glass cut to fit over the bottom slate and siliconing into place. Then siliconing up the corners to the top frame.

I have some that reach almost 10". I swear they have some Val in them :)

You can trim the leaves. They will just yellow and decay like others have stated. Better to pluck em.

Vaseline may void any warranty claim you have. I would clean it off thoroughly and make no mention of that when you claim the impeller/motor. I'm sure any "lubricant" other than water is not...
