You know, one thing you should check is the TDS of the RO water from the store. A good store that I always go to has a TDS of 7-11 PPM.

A crumby water store that I've gone to only once had a TDS...

There shouldn't be any nitrItes in your tank. If so, there could be one of four conclusions:

A) Your tap water may contain nitrAtes in it...

I agree with going with a brighter light so that you have the option to suspend the light fixture. It definitely looks cleaner and will be easier to do...

I forgot to mention that you need to do the treatment for two weeks, and then do a 50% water change. Seriously, if the Maracyn treatment doesn't work, I'd go back to trying Melafix for two weeks....
