Stick with the smaller species and bump up the numbers. 20-25 ottos, 100 neons, 20 or more pygmys. Stick with the 6 Roselines, they get pretty big. 4 angels.

My experience with angels and neons...

Patience. It took 4-5 months for my Repens to settle in. Low tech, no ferts. Dirted 20H. 4 T5 NO bulbs. Now they grow a half inch a month.

Anaerobic pocket where matter is decaying. The rotten egg smell is sulphur. I believe the gas is Hydrogen Sulfide. It's harmless to the fish and the plants. How deep is the gravel?

Beautiful Sword plant! It's transitioning to submerged growth, the new leaves are supposed to be thinner and longer, sword-like leaves. That's a happy plant.

It'll work. Just placed 6 dwarf sag in Floramax substrate last week. 4 Juhlis and 2 Sterbai. Only one plant uprooted and replanted. The others are already putting out runners.

With the number of bladder/pond snails that are in the tank, I believe that's just snail damage. No loss of leaves. Growth is thick, green and steady.

What am I missing?

Thanks, Hilde. The tank is a 20 High. No ferts, just dirt. If the growth starts to suffer, I'll be adding dry ferts (modified EI) and Root tabs.
