Can anyone suggest a good diffuser to use with DIY CO2? This one clearly needs much more pressure than my setup can provide.

+1 on the upgraded lighting. T5's are popular because they provide a lot of light for little fixtures and smaller tanks. I run 2 fixtures on my 15 gallon without CO2, just excel and liquid ferts.

The CO2 is the source of your bubbles. Really not a way to avoid them unless you get rid of the CO2 injection. You can introduce some surface agitation but you will always have bubbles in your tank.
