Unhappy Gold gourami sitting at bottom - acting weighted down

For the past week my usually active gold gourami has been sitting at the bottom of the tank, resting on the substrate. It'll come up (slowly) to get some food, and when the lights are off I'll see it...

Ok - I'm pulling the crypt. It just isn't working in the 2gal. I'm going to try and trim as little as possible, but that algae really doesn't even scrub off with a toothbrush!

Update:

Plants arrive on time (aquabotanic gets another thumbs up) looked great and
I got into it. Took be a good 7-8 hours to finish (oh, including a trip to a bulb store to up the light to a 5w cfl.)...
