Looking good (but sorry about your fish)! Hopefully you have more patience than me with algae.

A bamboo skewer inserted into the HC and twirled works pretty well for thread / hair algae.

Alum @ 10 tsp / gallon is supposed to kill snail eggs. I do a 20 min PP dip followed by a 2-3 day soak in alum.

Of course, some plants won't survive this treatment (mini pellia for example) but...
