That's one crowded tank. My guess would be not enough oxygen for the fish or if you're not doing any sort of quarantine when adding new fish, they might be introducing disease.

I had leeches in my tank a long time ago. Once I added assassin snails, I never saw them again. I can't say 100% for certain whether the assassins really did eradicate the problem, but it makes sense...

Good luck getting HC to root in a "pebble type" substrate. My suggestion would be some dwarf sag (sagittaria subulata) for your bigger substrate, and it's not a very demanding plant...good for new...

I tried HC with discus, but that didn't work out so well since they picked at it and kept uprooting it. That and the HC didn't do so well at the higher temps.

I use dry ferts and make my NPK mix for EI dosing, but I only make two weeks worth at a time...mostly because I have some feeling that the efficiency of the ferts when mixed in water will deteriorate...

If they're juvies, you gotta take people's advice with a grain of salt. Hardcore discus folk will mostly tell you how to care...

+1 to what others have said. Patience is the toughest part when it comes to new plants. Just stuff the stem in your substrate and let it work its magic. Your blyxa jungle will flourish in no time.
