Heater shattered

I just discovered that my heater shattered.

It was a cheap Chinese one.

My hornwort in the aquarium had been shedding hardcore. I wonder if this is why.

Decomposing frogbit as fertilizer for terrestial plants

I use my aquarium water to water my houseplants.

Frogbit gets in there. Would decomposing frogbit act as a decent fert?

I believe that what plants lack most in aquariums is nitrogen + co2, right?

I guess I could just buy seachem, but over time that might get expensive. Could I just throw in some iron-rich foods,...

So with regular chlorine, I hear that all you have to do is leave the water out for 24+ hours and the chlorine will outgas.

Fish seem to like garden soil in their tanks

I have 5 tanks.

All have similar plants, mainly hornwort and wisteria and duckweed.

Two of them had garden soil put in as substrate. Three had standard pool sand put in.

Woah, 4200k is awesome for aquariums

I picked up a cheap grow light from walmart. It casts a purplish light so I tested it on my aquarium fish.

It makes the aquariums look much cooler. Too bad you really can't get CFL's in 4200k
