That is indeed the flying fox, Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus. The alternating black-gold-black bands are the easiest indicator.

How long have the plants been in your tank? Most aquatic plants will "melt," or lose their leaves, while adjusting to the water conditions of a new aquarium. In all likelihood they'll bounce back.
