What if that moss gets caught on something, snails don't exactly have much power to pull themselves free. I dunno this seems cruel to me even though I can't place my finger on why.

Just a heads up sometimes lava rock can be a pain in the arse to get it to sink. I would say so long as it won't mess with your water chemistry and you only go with one type of rock it should...
