Thanks everyone!

It is my understanding that here in SW Florida the softeners can't remove all carbonates in our well water. Fairly shallow limestone aquifer.

Prolonged sunlight is the best method of sterilization. UV in tank filters are also somewhat effective. Bleach is useless as is isopropyl alcohol IMO. I have TB is a 20 G tank, verified by necropsy...
