Don't let your family make you feel weird about the shrimp, I really like your start. The Cockatoo's wood be fine, but would eat your rcs for sure. Definitely get a few more neons though

Oh I know but, if you just use a bit of leaves, it would not affect the water clarity. Alder cones work better and don't really affect the water clarity but in very large amounts

Love the tank! Like you said before Green Neons would be a great addition. You wont't regret it. Mine school tightly and imo are better looking than regular neons. Keep posting pictures!
