The one I use when needed is Fritz Zyme Turbo Start 700 (http://www.fritzpet.com/turbo-start-700/). It is in the fridge at my LFSs. Cuts the cycle time down to 4 / 5 days.

I don't think that is possible without having some type of seeded media in the tank. For the nitrogen cycle to start ammonia needs to be added to the water.

In my 5 gallons I use Ecobulb Plus "Daylight" 13W (60W equivalent) CFLs. My plants do very well. I buy these from Big Lots in packs of 4 and they only cost about $7 or $8!
