JJ, a self sustaining aquarium is pretty much impossible, you will at least need to keep adding water at the very least. but I dont see a reason why a nano planted aquarium...

I would agree, I can't think of a plant that would carpet without a substrate other then moss. Flame moss would make a cool carpet, just attach it to some stainless steel mesh the size of the tank...
