Native fish love!

Plenty of beautiful US shiners and darters would love a river tank with cooler water. I don't get why they don't get a whole lot more love in the hobby.

I'm guessing if you didn't feed them they may have had molting problems from lack of protein in their diet. You'd survive a while on a diet of just lettuce, but not forever.

With their requirements (higher temperature, pH, etc.) it will be very difficult to maintain parameters that keep them happy along with the other shrimp.

These and $4 non-digital timers from Harbor Freight are what I like using the best. Cheap, infinitely customizable (to 15 minute intervals at least), and no batteries to worry about.

Shrimp NEED trace amounts of copper to survive. They use it to carry oxygen to blood cells in the same way we use iron. Trying to be entirely copper-free is not the best idea.

I wouldn't use antibiotics with otos. They're fully dependent on their flora to digest what they eat...nuking that would be equally bad for them.
