it depends on how much you trust where you got them from. but there are more than a few "diseases" that can pop up especially in farm raised outside tanks neos.

you need either a some large or a lot of pieces for it to have a big effect of PH. its more about providing a great place for shrimp to graze and hide. they are some of the best options for objects...

try using less even half does is a lot. and premix it in a cup of tank water then pour that in near some flow. powders suck just sprinkling on the surface.

I love fissidens but feel flame moss is even...

I love fissidens but feel flame moss is even better for shrimp. provides much more surface area since it grows up tall and is open enough for babies to full grown to get within the the patch.
