If you look past the diffuser you can see they have a pretty nice carpet of the stuff.

Why weren't sumps considered good filters? There is plenty of room for biomedia. Also, was the conclusion that water flow is more important for the removal of particulates or dispersing co2?

Some aquarium plants have nice flowers when grown emersed. My Rotala macrandra is blooming right now and it looks awesome. Hydrocotyle also flowers quite a bit for me.

I don't know if you can find this in Canada, but this Hydrocotyle is a pretty awesome plant. Really easy to grow, and not too tall either....

A little off topic, but if my tap water has a gH of 15, how much of this water should I per gallon of RO water to decrease it to a gH of around 3-5? Is it as simple as 2 parts RO to 1 part tap?
