I have two of them and neither work well for this purpose. They used excessive amounts of gas due to poor dissolution. Ceramic diffuser underneath didn't work any better. The impeller is very weak...

That filter works poorly. A dedicated powerhead works far better creating smaller bubbles. Diffusion is never 100% with this method.
