Exactly, it has more space for nitrification bacteria to fo their job and u can have much more filter media in it compared to hobs and internal ones.

How big is.the tank? I have mine in 38 litres and know guys having it in 20 litres and no issue. Try Lily pipes, they will probably distribute the flow better.
