Use excel and reduce lighting to around 4-5 hours. Keep up with water changes. The plants I see aren't heavily dependent on co2.

The HC isn't as likely to 'float away' since Riccia is a floating plant by nature and it doesn't have any roots. That being said that does look rather tall for HC. How is your lighting?

Are you sure it's spiderwood? I think the term is thrown around very loosely. I've sold and used a lot of spiderwood (Rhododendron root) and it usually sinks in just a few days.

Nice setup. That's funny I made the same top out of egg crate for my betta tank. I painted mine black since it went better with the dark nature of the setup.
