Definitely correct. If they rise to the surface or not far enough it will leech ammonia and can cause a mini cycle. Took me forever to figure that out in my old tank that was running super high...

No problem. I have mine in an Iwagumi and they kinda go under the plants that are taller next to rocks that have an overhang.

I agree with the pots, I don't like them in a show tank personally.
