I'm not 100% but since no one has posted anything I'll answer. I've read that dirted tanked generally leech tannins and make the water off color for a month or so, if I recall correctly.

I'm running an Eheim 2217 which is rated at 264 gph flow rate. I also have a Koralia Nano rated at 240 gph in the tank because flow is too low.

Total of 524 gph in a 32 gallon tank.
