I was young. Maybe 8? Won a goldfish from a game of chance at the 4H fair. Put it in a glass planter of some type my mom had. Been at it ever since, but got multiple tank syndrome too bad. 3 max.

I did a bypass for my AM1000 since it can't...
I did a bypass for my AM1000 since it can't handle the flow from my pump. Adjustment is easy since the reactor is transparent. I used a ball valve but a gate valve would be easier to get fine tuned.

The 04 series fluvals did have crappy priming gizmos, but I never use that crap anyway. I just fill the hoses with water from a cup. Only have to prime after a complete overhaul anyway.

I used to cut the cartridges up so they became little more than frames and then stuffed the basket loosely with filter floss using the old cartridge too keep it from floating out.

Might have to play with the outlet a bit to keep the circulation the way you want it, but the filter doesn't care.
My 3 inlets are all within 1" of the water surface and there is no mulm gathering...
