The 42 light conversion is what I have on order and I agree the new plastic feels different and cheap. I haven't noticed the silicone issue but then again all three I am using are old models.

The top glass came in cracked so the top is removed. The first one isn't ruined at all but somehow the driftwood wedged in at a angle and then I planted around it. It can be tough at times
