It's normal. In nature, the temperature can fluctuate 3-5 degrees, just from daytime heating and nighttime cooling, so your tank is fine.

It looks like western sea purslane, Sesuvium verrucosum. It is a wetland plant bur cannot tolerate being permanently submerged.

It's a leech. Most leeches are scavengers, not bloodsucking parasites, so it is probably harmless. They are nocturnal, so check your tank at night to see if you have more of them.

I have a similar setup, but I find that natural sunlight from the window serves more as supplementary light, rather than a primary light source. I have T8 bulbs over my tank as the primary light.

Not having a lid will allow more light in your tank, plus better oxygen exchange.

My favorite size is 24" wide. I'll never have another tank less than 24", as the aquascaping options are much greater. The additional width is also more pleasing to view.
