I don't share the opinion about that high phosphates cause algae. The lack of other nutrients or co2 if you have excessive light are more likely to be the cause.

It's the coral, it increases TDS, GH and PH. Which isn't bad if that is what you are looking for.

Plants can only absorb nitrates depending on that there is no other limiting factor such as lack of other nutrient like phosphate, co2 or light.

Plants do not only "suck up" nitrates they need...
