I had the same thing happen late last year on an eheim 2213 that I bought used. Definitely plastic stress. I only use it for back up now.

A 2213 is a little strong for a 10 g. I have one on a 20 and it has a lot of current. You could aim the spraybar to the back of the tank to keep the current down in the main part of the tank.

Pearls for sure...they have the most beautiful colouration when they are healthy and they are not aggressive like blues. They can get big though 5+ inches. I would suggest more females than males...
