Make sure you help them out with shell damage. Give some cuttlefish bone or something to prevent shell erosion from your CO2. They do leave a bunch of hard, unsightly eggs, but they do a great job...

You can simulate riccia attaching to substrate or rock by using stainless steel mesh, but it will never actually attach to things. It tends to break off in little bits and float.

Eh, those things work fine. I don't think there's a huge difference between those and the real deal ADA ones (in function). If you have problems filling it, just tap it gently to get the air...

Can you see eggs? It's possible, but dropsy also causes fish to swell up like that. It makes their scales stick out like a pinecone. Also, sometimes fish can get eggbound and die.
