Not to "rain" on your parade. (I know) But it is thought that spawning is induced from a change in barometric pressure. But I like your tank and that is a very cool feature.

Well I bought the eggs so I can't speak for the parents. They both have grown pretty fast and I all my other fry are healthy so I am guessing genetic.

I had some red worms as hitchhikers in a tank with no fish in it. They were bloodworms and would make cacoons out of detritus. Then they transformed into midges after awhile. I wouldn't worry...

Yeah I used to jam a sponge in the air holes but found it sometimes lead to mold. Maybe the filter floss would allow more air flow. How about feeding the mites to fish any issues there?

I have a simular take on it figuring that all the moss in there is probably harboring enough bacteria to take care of that low bioload for at least a little while. Not to mention taking in ammonia...

Yeah I guess technically they might be juvies. I have moss i there with them now was thinking I could add some more.

Maybe I will make some small air driven filters for them in the meantime.

What I do for wood that won't sink is drill holes...

What I do for wood that won't sink is drill holes in it then zip tie it to eggcrate then bury the eggcrate in substrate and weigh down with rocks. That way you can move / rearange a little easier...
