I haven't seen anubias mentioned. Lots of varieties, tends to stay small. Grows great for me and I tend not to be able to grow anything.

My vote is 75 as well. I've owned a 55 gallon in the past and now own a 40 breeder. I really enjoy the extra width afforded in the smaller tank. If the 75 has a larger width, I say go with that.

I didn't think they were diatoms. This is more black than brown and it's not easily wiped away. One of the links also suggests Otto's would eat it which mine show no interest in. I don't see holes.
