in all reality omitting a 100 watt heater is probably saving you less than a few bucks...per year. I would even guess that it doesn't make a difference at all.

im sorry friend I don't see anything that looks like algae in either picture. sometimes if you look hard enough at every minor detail in your tank, you will create something out of nothing.
