Your idea won't work newt. There has to be a connection to the Co2 bottle capable of withstanding 2000psi while the working pressure of Co2 is about 900psi.

I run my Co2 24/7 so I can't answer from experience. But, in theory I would think that if you are using a timer then yes the permeability levels will drop...
