I tried it on my 75 gal for about 6 mo, BIG pain in A. Algae out breaks and cloudy water.
If you try it, I would suggest supplementing w/ excel.

Too small a tank for discus. discus are a shoaling fish and need # to do best. Witha 55 gal you may get 5 at the most.
That being said, I have 7 in a heavy planted 75 gal,and I have to stay on top...

Have 7 adults in a heavily planted 75 gal for 3 years. EI and weekly 60% water change. HEAVY fishload, but no deaths and no real problems.
Discus keeping can be scary, especially with the barebottom...

I have also had problems w/ downoi in my discus tank(82 degrees),but it thrives in a 10 gal shrimp tank at 76. Both in 10 gh.

I also have a 75 gal discus tank and dose same amount of macros, but I dose 15 ml of micros every other day. You may need to up your CO2.
