WPG only really applied to t12/t8 bulbs, and even with those that rule wasn't great IMO. So your t5 HO should give you sufficient lighting even at under 2wpg. Do some research regarding PAR to light...

I fully agree that a key factor is where this fish is bred. Try to find a quality breeder here in the U.S. because I think that might be the vital mistake that many are making when buying rams.
