Regenerating Purigen - buffer?

What function does soaking the bag in a buffer perform? I don't recall that from the last time I regenerated it; unfortunately I'm halfway through and don't have any buffer.

Elatine triandra conditions?

I know elatine is notoriously difficult to ship but it seems to do well for a week or more after planting, then melts. This is in a high light, CO2 injected, EI dosed tank. Could it be that my 7.6...

I had to take the reactor out of the loop to do it, but it's holding, only a drop every couple of minutes, perhaps stopped now. I tightened it as much as I dared.

The filter was off for 18 hours....
