Are these red root floaters or what are they?

I bought these a while back and they have grown like crazy and now cover most of my 40 gallon breeder. I need to get rid of some but I'm not sure what they are. can someone help me identify them...

Yes I kept this in mind! But rather than fighting algae as I increase the co2, I cut the fuel to the algae and can raise my ferts as I increase the co2 :biggrin:

I would be nervous using something not made for aquarium use such as this because a 40 gallon can easily weigh 600+ lbs. I would rather know I wont come home to a destroyed home...
