Only other option I see is shaving plastic on both tees and the valve. That may or may not give you the room to fit the valve between the tees as it sits now.

Word from experience: do not trust check valves. Period. They work well when new, and all goes down hill from there. Use, small particals, substrate, plant material...all can damage or get stuck...
