I would wait till the tank is mature and then top off with RO water if your TDS is still higher than you want it. If all your critters are doing well then leave it be...That's what I have done.. Good...

I tried it once and it makes a lot of noise but worked great for me. I ran the line right into the pump and it chopped up the C02 and spread it around my tank. I did change to a diffuser later...

I have used pool filter sand with no problems.. Just clean it real well before adding.
Add it slowly and you should be good to go
