The Tek lights are pre-wired, but if you choose to DIY, they use the triad ballast which you can wire up only 1 bulb per ballast if you wish. The Tek lights use the Triad ballast from my understanding

I got a 50 gallon tank too, it wasn't called breeder though. It has a center brace unlike the breeders. Apparently they do not make the 50 gallon tanks without the center brace anymore. 36"x18"x18"...
