Thanks everybody for the info. I dont plan on going betta shopping till monday so it will have a few days to cycle, will do water changes daily for about a week or so.

So I did a small water change before leaving for work and left the water level low so my power head would cause a lot of surface movement, and now everythimg seems to be ok no more cloudy water.

Welcome to the forum. Those are some great tanks. I really enjoy the low tech tanks, I have three ten gallon low tech tanks and a 46 gallon bow front somewhat high tech tank. Keep us updated.

You will need to place some type of sponge on the intake of the filter, so no shrimp get sucked up. Otherwise I think it looks great, I like simple when it comes to shrimp tanks.

I always remove the lead weights and plant stems in small bunches, that way they have room to spread. Are you using any type of liquid co2 like excel, that might be why the vals are unhappy.
